Veteran actress #NaylaJaffri passed away in Karachi after battling with ovarian cancer for six years.
The actress will be cremated at the Army graveyard at Chanesar Goth. Atif Jaffery, Nayla Jaffri’s brother, said his sister’s funeral prayers will be offered at Defense Phase II, and she will be buried at the Army Cemetery on Kala Pul.
The actress was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in 2016, but she recovered and moved to Pakistan’s northern areas, where she stayed for the next two to three years.
A couple of months ago, Jaffery had posted a video from her hospital bed, requesting channels to pay artists’ royalties for reruns of their dramas, after the treatment exhausted her financial resources along with her physical and mental health. Urging authorities and media industry to pay artists royalties for airing their work again, she had requested, “If you want to help me, please speak up for this cause”.
In response to her appeal, Sindh’s Minister for Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Sardar Shah had offered on behalf of the government to bear the expenses of her treatment. However, she reportedly turned down the offer, sticking to her original demand for royalties.
Wishes poured in from the entire country upon news of the actress’s demise becoming public.
In a Twitter post, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhary Fawad Hussain expressed his deep sorrow over her demise.
