Pakistani survivors on the boat that sunk on the Greek coast blame Greek coastguards for the incident, saying people didn’t drown, they were deliberately made to drown by Greek coastguards. The UN confirmed the death of hundreds onboard, marking the tragedy as one of the worst in the Mediterranean Sea. Pakistani survivors claimed that the ship carrying about 750 people- was deliberately sunk and no rescue was provided.
The incident involving the sinking of an overcrowded fishing trawler off the coast of Greece, involves the death of at least 78 migrants although Greek authorities have yet to confirm the death toll.
The video accounts of victims exposes the inhuman attitude of Greece authorities in the last hours leading to the tragedy. Two Pakistani survivors from the tragic incident recounted “They have done this [on purpose]. They have sunk it themselves,” one of the survivors said. The other added that they had been still for five days and six nights before the ship sunk “in a minute”, recalling that the ship’s engine had broken down, leaving them still for almost a week.
There were an estimated 750 passengers on the ship, including at least 40 children, including hundreds of migrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan, and many from Azad Jammu Kashmir. As reported by CNN “Every year, tens of thousands of migrants fleeing war, persecution, climate change and poverty risk treacherous routes to Europe.”
