In conversation with Aamna Isani, Bakhtawar Mazhar has opened up about her parenting experience and how it has evolved because of her roles. Stating that, through her role in the drama serial Parwarish, she learned how important it is to understand a child’s feelings. While we focus on their physical health, their mental health is ignored and misunderstood. She said that through her characters, she has come to understand a child’s perspective and has evolved as a parent. She said that, instead of focusing on the child’s presence, she focuses on what might be going on in their mind.
Talking about her childhood, Bakhtawar added that her relationship with her mother shaped her approach to parenting. She said that her mother was so busy with responsibilities that she had no time to talk to her children. Breaking that cycle, she decided to have open conversations with her daughters; however, despite the friendly environment, a generational gap emerged. She further added that she feels like she has not been a good mother despite her efforts because of the generational gap.

Along with that, she worked on the relationships between the siblings, which has enabled them to have conversations she cannot have with them. As she evolves as a parent, she believes the characters she plays affect her. Currently, she is seen as Saeeda Phupho in Doctor Bahu, a progressive woman battling cancer and serving as a support system for her nieces. In Parwarish, she played Saadia, a submissive woman battered by her husband, who finally breaks when he tries to harm her daughters.
