Famed music producer and former Vital Signs member Rohail Hyatt, remembered his late bandmate and religious scholar Junaid Jamshed in a recent interview with Dawn.
Regarding the singer’s turn towards religion Hyatt said “Junaid may have had completely transitioned later, but he was always very religious. Before the release of every song, every album, every concert, the band would gather and Junaid would lead the collective du’a [prayer]. He would start with an Arabic recitation and then turn to Urdu. It was only natural — prayers lead to blessings.”
Earlier Hyatt had also published in a Twitter post about his late friend and grief over Jamshed’s tragic death in a plane crash five years ago. He had penned his feelings in a heartfelt note.
As asked by someone, I’ve been quiet about my brother JJ’s departure from this world because I’ve always felt words will fall short to describe my loss. And they still do. I miss him and his wonderful smile. May he be smiling in heaven forever IA. May Allah bless his soul. Ameen
