Recently, a hot debate has erupted over the screening of foreign films in local theatres which has the Pakistani entertainment industry divided into two groups: one being for the idea and the other being against it.

The debate erupted when the Hollywood movie Dr. Strange replaced Pakistani movies in local theatres during prime time. This being the case despite Pakistani movies having made quite an impact at the box-office with all 5 Eid-ul-Fitr releases doing well.

As a result, directors and producers are protesting with actors and other celebrities also joining the band-wagon. Many have come out in protest of Hollywood movies replacing local movies during prime time, demanding more support for the fragile state of the Pakistani film industry. Meanwhile, an opposing group believes that screening of foreign films provides some necessary healthy competition to local cinema and banning all foreign content is not the route to gaining support for local cinema.

Here are some of the celebs that took to social media to lend their opinions on the matter.

#AmarKhan shared her take on ‘Doctor Strange’ taking over local films in cinemas across Pakistan.
