Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Senior Vice President Maryam Nawaz said that as a woman, she has had to face ‘workplace harrassment’, ‘personal attacks’ from Imran Khan while addressing a convention on Women’s Day. She said that even she, despite being a woman from a very powerful family and the backing of thousands of supporters, has been subjected to harrassment.

Maryam rightly said that the PTI Chairman Imran Khan and his party has targeted her with vulgar  “personal attacks” in response to purely political debates. She recalled an incident where she had made some political remarks about Khan, in response to which he blatantly said in a jalsa “Maryam Nawaz tum mera itna naam leyti ho tumhara miyan kahin naraz na hojaye.”

In response to all this Maryam said “As a woman, even having to take Imran Khan’s name is an insult to me”, because of his vulgar behavior when it comes to women. She questioned what the members of a party would be like if their leader was so rude and disrespectful in his treatment of women.

In addition to Khan’s remarks, other PTI members have also frequently casually hurled sexist and chauvinistic remarks at the party leader.

Speaking at the International Women’s Day seminar held in Lahore, the PML-N leader gave credit to her father Nawaz Sharif for her presence in politics, saying that despite Nawaz being an over-protective father and knowing the dirty situation of politics in Pakistan today he never stopped her from taking the forefront just because of her female gender.
