Haunting news came from Rawalpindi, when a 10-day-old infant was found dead in the house well after a report of him missing was launched a day prior. The Jatli police station, which had earlier launched a search for the missing child, now suspects murder after the body was found within the premises of the complainant’s house in the Kant Roshan area.
Kamran Shahzad, the deceased child’s father, had informed the police on Saturday that his child had gone missing while he was at work at a mill. The child went missing when the mother went to give clothes to a relative, leaving the child sleeping in the care of the grandmother and two sisters-in-law. Upon searching the house, the infant was not found.
Responding quickly to the complaint, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Daniyal Kazmi and Station House Officer (SHO) Jamal Nawaz reached the spot for forensic examination, and the police team searched for the child throughout the night. The police also searched the well in the house, yet were unable to trace the child due to the 100-foot depth and lack of light.
Upon failure to retrieve water from the well via a turbine, a mechanic was lowered into the well under police supervision, who discovered the infant’s lifeless body. While elaborating on the case, the police stated that the room where the child was sleeping was a large distance from the well. They further added that the well was properly covered, which rules out it being an accident. Members of the family are under police custody, and an investigation has been initiated. The police stated that it is certain that the child was thrown into the well, hence the culprits will face murder charges alongwith kidnapping charges.
