
A disturbing incident came to light in Lahore’s Gulberg area on Monday when the police arrested a man accused of attempting to assault a minor sexually, Express News reported. The accused attempted to assault a 10-year-old boy and was swiftly tracked down and taken into custody by law enforcement.
The police stated that the arrest was made using human intelligence gathering, which aided the officers in tracking the suspect to Gulbahar Colony. The operation was carried out by the Superintendent of Police (SP) Model Town, Sherbano Naqvi, after the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Operations took notice of the incident, who ordered the formation of a special team to ensure the suspect was located without delay.
Talking to the press, the police spokesperson stated that the victim, identified as 10-year-old Shahzaib, was targeted when he left his home to visit a nearby shop for routine groceries. The suspect had allegedly attempted to lure the child and attempted the assault. However, the boy’s loud cries for help alerted nearby residents, prompting the suspect to flee the scene before any further harm was inflicted on the minor boy.
The suspect has been identified as Usman Sikandar and has been formally booked. The case has been transferred to the Gender Cell for further investigation. The police have ensured that a complete inquiry will be made and all necessary legal procedures will be followed to serve justice to the young victim.
SP Model Town also ensured that the police have a firm stance on crimes involving children, and no leniency will be given to any suspect arrested for exploiting or abusing minors. She further stated that the law enforcement agencies are committed to protecting vulnerable members of society.
