The latest episode of Meri Zindagi Hai Tu has got us wondering whether Kamyar (Bilal Abbass) is the hero we are looking for, or the villain who must face his fate. The division is huge, with some arguing that Kamyar promotes toxic dynamics in the name of romance and is constantly pursuing Ayra (Hania Amir), despite her repeatedly turning him down. However, some notice a shift in his personality after his encounter with Ayra.
So far, Kamyar and Ayra have been unable to come to terms due to the constant trouble he has been causing in her life. In an attempt to protect her brother from a police case for assaulting Kamyar, Ayra has been manipulated to see and greet him. She has been declining all his offers, yet he remains persistent; he can be seen outside her home and workplace, persistently persuading her. With his consistent apologies and attempts to fix things in her life, Kamyar, too, can be seen making an effort.

Where we can see a soft side to Kamyar with his grandmother, to Ayra, he is still the man who burned her car, assaulted her brother and is stalking her all the time. By the end of this week’s episodes, Ayra can be seen developing a soft spot for him, as his love for her grandmother is leading her to see his softer side, and Kamyar has worked his way into her heart.

Some viewers can see a redemption arc in Kamyar’s character and find promising growth. A user posted on X:
Kamyar’s redemption in Meri Zindagi Hai Tu started by ep 6 he apologized to Ayra’s sister accepted his mistakes calmly, listened to his Dadi and openly told Ayra he wants to change. This isn’t promoting stalking it’s showing growth.#merizindagihaitu

Another stated that the growth of the character should not be ignored due to the previous toxicity it carried; the user posted:
Every story shows flawed humans evolving. Condemning a character while refusing to acknowledge their growth is not https://t.co/fBoHLqEs32 bring something else those pls refrain who are commenting without watching even a single ep#BilalAbbasKhan#merizindagihaitu #HaniaAamir

Calling Kamyar a grey character, a user said he is not supposed to be the ideal hero, as he has both good and bad sides. They posted:
People dont understand the meaning of a grey character. A grey person will have both bad and good quality in him. Kamyar was never your good boy. He did problematic things tht got called out by other characters in the show also. He is not your flawless hero #merizindagihaitu

However, to some, the plot does not sit well because they believe that, in this day and age, the portrayal of a stalker who turns into a lover is unnecessary. Writer Mahwash Ejaz pointed out that Kamyar’s prior encounters with Ayra and her family were criminal and that one must not fall in love with a criminal like him. She wrote on X:
This is so incredibly dumb. A man who torches cars, insults women 24/7, shouts at his parents is never going to take treatment like this from a woman.
DO NOT fall in love with criminals. https://t.co/rbwrMQNhZV

Endorsing her, another user stated that such content should not be normalised and said:
My exact thoughts…I can’t get over how Pakistani dramas are constantly normalising this behaviour as romance instead of teaching boys how to be men. https://t.co/sskw27bcIX

While referring to the scene where Ayra’s best friend is motivating her to see Kamyar as a good person, Ayra also mentions that there are some red flags in his personality. Ejaz wrote:
Talking about how Kamyar does not respect Ayra’s boundaries, should not be romanticised the way the drama serial does, a user commented:
