80 year-old man completes PhD from Federal Urdu University, despite multiple health setbacks

Age is just a number and it’s heartening to witness a someone’s dedication to education like Saeed Masood Usmani. At the age of 80, Usmani received his PhD in Mass Communication from the Federal Urdu University in Karachi.

During the process of his doctoral research, Usmani suffered from four heart attacks and one stroke, but kept working towards completing his research despite the health setbacks.

Usmani’s thesis titled ‘Popularity of FM Radio Broadcasting in Karachi and Analytical Study of Audience’ examined the social and cultural influence of FM Radio among locals by surveying over 5,126 residents and several districts across the city. His thesis had received positive responses from local as well as international academic supervisors.

According to the Times Of Karachi, Usmani was known among local circles to be a ‘walking encyclopedia’ and had spent most of his life reading or involved in political activism.
