In Karachi, an 18-year-old girl has allegedly been killed in the Surjani Town area over a dowry dispute; police have registered an FIR on the victim’s mother’s complaint, Express News reported. The mother, Shehnaz, has alleged that her daughter, Misbah, was tortured by her husband, Shahyar Butt, resulting in her death. In her statement, she added that Misbah married the accused out of love on March 19, 2026, after which a cycle of torture and physical abuse began. The victim has eloped with the accused; however, his history of abuse was revealed to the family later; it was Shahryar’s fourth marriage.
The abuse began when Shahryar blackmailed and tortured Misbah for a motorcycle in dowry; the family was informed about the abuse through an unknown caller on May 7, 2026. She was rushed to the hospital in an injured state and was brought back to her family’s home, where she succumbed to her injuries. While recovering, Misbah had stated that she was severely beaten and thrown out of the house by her husband over dowry demands. She passed away on May 8, 2026, and her body was moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital after informing the police.

Regarding the incident, the police have stated that a case has been registered against the accused, Shahryar, and that raids are being conducted while the investigation is underway. The family has spoken to the media and stated that the accused claimed to be a member of the police force and even showed her a picture of himself in a police uniform. While he would sit idle, he would return with 10,000 to 15,000 rupees each time he left home, Misbah told her family. He allegedly used to threaten the family after torturing his wife; they have provided his messages using foul language and hurling death threats as proof to the police. They had also been attacked by Shahryar, who barged into their house with 4-5 men and abused them. The family told the media that they had legally disassociated with Misbah on her request, as she feared that her family would be exploited and extorted for money.
The police concluded that a decision on whether to register the case would be made following directives from the Senior Superintendent of Police(SSP) West. Police have initiated a thorough investigation into the incident, and evidence is being gathered from various angles.
