Waris Baig reveals Mahesh Butt apologised for using his plagarized song in ‘Murder’ film

Singer Waris Baig was a guest on the show ‘Zabardast With Wasih Shah’ where he opened up about a heartening encounter with the acclaimed Indian film director, Mahesh Butt.

Waris revealed he had expressed his anger with how Bollywood had used his songs in films without asking for his permission. Mahesh Butt had used one of his songs in his ‘Murder’ film series, but had later publicly apologized to him for this act.

Sitting on the show, Waris revealed Mahesh had visited a morning show in Pakistan where he had apologized to the singer, expressing that he was not aware of the fact that the song in his film had belonged to a Pakistani singer.

The trend of Indian films stealing Pakistani songs without giving them any credit is sadly too prevalent within Bollywood today, and it is heartening to hear that a giant in the film industry had attempted to fix his mistake.

Previously, it was singer Farasat Anees who called out Indian music giant T-Series for plagarizing his song ‘Biba’. In 2023, Anees took to his Instagram account to call out the company for not crediting him in their stolen version.

“Please have some shame and stop ruining every good song from Pakistan. Even if you wanted to reproduce the song, you should have done [using] the original stuff. Clearly stole chords, intro, arrangements of our version. Clear theft!”

In December 2023, singer Omer Nadeem had called out Sonu Nigam for singing a cover of his song ‘Aye Khuda’ without crediting him for the original version. Taking to his Instagram account, he had shared both versions of the song and lamented how the situation should have been handled in a better manner.
