Oscar winning Pakistani filmmaker #SharmeenObaidChinoy becomes the first woman and the first person of color to direct a Star Wars film.
According to Deadline, where sources have claimed that Damon Lindelof is developing a new Star Wars film, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has been set as director. Lindelof is said to be co-writing the project, though his writing partner seems to be undecided at the moment.
Furthermore, “Insiders say the script is still being written which means production is likely far out. That said, sources add it was important to Lucasfilm and Lindelof that a director be brought on so that person’s own vision for where they see this story headed gets included in the script.”
As Star Wars projects continue to be one of the most guarded secrets of Hollywood- the content and focus of the upcoming project has been kept well under wraps. Meanwhile, considering the promptness with which a director has been sought for this film, this Star Wars feature seems to have the most momentum out of all all the films currently in development at the studio.
