Hum TV’s Raaja Rani drama highlights a very serious issue that exists in Pakistani households, how greed and manipulation can silently destroy not just an individual but the entire family.

The story revolves around Zaviyar (played by Faisal Qureshi), a kind and emotional man who slowly loses his mental stability after an accident. But the question is, is this loss random, or a result of family manipulation? It’s a reflection of what happens behind closed doors, where family members use his mental instability as a weapon, just for the property inheritance.

In a society where property is often tied to power and respect, Zaviyar’s family represents those who see mental illness not as something to care for, but as an opportunity. Instead of helping him recover, they make sure he stays isolated, tortured, and dependent, just enough to sign away his rights. This is the exact representation of our Pakistani society, where money is valued more than people. The drama also continues to portray that sometimes, the most dangerous battles aren’t fought outside the home, but within it.

This pushes us to think: how many people in our society are robbed of their inheritance through emotional abuse, medical labels, or family politics? How often is mental health used to discredit someone’s right to their own name, land, and future? But the arrival of Rani brings a shift in the continuous torture for Zaviyar because she somehow slowly begins to bring back his voice, and with it, his legal rights.

What makes Raaja Rani different is that it forces us to ask: How many Zaviyars have we broken in the name of greed? How many people have we silenced with “log kya kahenge?”

In our Pakistani society, where property and inheritance are often placed above emotions and relationships, Raaja Rani serves as a reminder and might set an example for us to learn from in the coming episodes.
