President Arif Alvi takes to Twitter to announce that his coronavirus test has come out positive and said a prayer for all those who have been affected by the virus.

Dr Alvi took to Twitter to inform about his infection:

‘I have tested positive for Covid-19. May Allah have mercy on all Covid affectees. Had 1st dose of vaccine but antibodies start developing after 2nd dose that was due in a week. Please continue to be careful’

The President’s wife Samina Alvi also shared that the president has “mild symptoms but is in good spirits”. She added that she tested negative for the virus and was quarantining.

“We had our vaccine 1st dose done but it takes time to build immunity & I request everyone to please continue to get vaccinations done & practice SOPs,” she tweeted.

Authorities have imposed strict restrictions and penalties to control the spread of the virus, amidst a fast spreading third wave in Pakistan.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Imran Khan also tested positive for Covid along with his wife. The PM has continued work via virtual meetings.

Both leaders have urged the public to practice Covid rules and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedure) implemented across the country.
