The highly anticipated 2024 Oscars unfolded today, and as tradition dictates, all eyes were on the glamorous fashion choices of the celebrities. However, this year’s red carpet displayed an unexpected sight – a collective retreat from bold experimentation in favor of a more conventional approach.

Surprisingly there were no animated, larger-than-life outfits in sight that usually steal the spotlight or at least allow for a discourse. The event saw the attendees draped in long, sleek gowns that lent the atmosphere a somewhat robotic aesthetic. Many people have called it the shift to quiet luxury and clean-understated styles.

Even fashion trailblazers like Zendaya and Margot Robbie seemed to forego their penchant for daring styles, and opted for a somewhat repetitive silhouette that has been seen on the red carpet for ages. This departure from their usual fashion bravado raises questions about the collective decision to embrace a safer, more subdued fashion palette as well as the trends defining the fashion for this year.

Numerous celebrities adorned their ensembles with a distinctive red pin, serving as a visible expression of support and calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. This included Rami Youssef, Mark Ruffalo, Billie Eilish amongst many other prominent names.

While the fashion choices may have leaned towards the safe and predictable, the subtle but powerful display of unity for a global cause added a meaningful and heartfelt layer to the Oscars ceremony. It would be ‘SAFE’ to say that for this year the message of peace and solidarity took center stage at the Oscars.
