The latest episode of drama Mujhe Pyar Hua Tha disappoints as it hints towards yet another storyline regressing towards glorification of gun violence, forced marriages and a weak female protagonist.

The plot dives into Areeb (Zaviyar Nauman) blackmailing his family to get him married to the girl of his choice. After his mother refuses to get him married to Maheer (Hania Amir), he conveniently puts a weapon to his head threatening that he will pull the trigger if the family doesn’t agree. Sounds familiar considering the example of Danish Taimoor’s toxic roles in dramas ‘Ishq Hai’ and ‘Kaisi Teri Khudgarzi’, where he can be seen pulling similar stunts.

Similarly, Maheer also seems to follow the age-old archetype of the plain old Jane, too simple for her own good, and totally unaware of the ways of the world. From being completely unaware of her friend Saad’s feelings for her, to not giving any significant reaction to Areeb’s mother’s rude treatement of her and her family, she seems to be a recipe for a Pakistani drama’s female lead!
