The menace of ever-increasing plastic waste in Pakistan is not a new one, but very little is being done in the country to counter it. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, however, takes the lead with placing a ban on all types of plastic bags.

The KP Assembly on Tuesday passed the KP Environmental Protection (Amendment) Bill 2022, to impose a ban on plastic products and regulating these products to make them environmentally friendly.

According to the bill, there will be a ban on the manufacture, import, purchase, sale, storage, distribution, transportation, supply, and usage of all types of plastic bags. The bill also states that manufacturers, wholesale dealers, and retailers will ensure the disposal of the existing stock of plastic bags within six months, which will be seized after the given time.

  1. This will also be a step towards urging corporate food giants in Pakistan to take for their own plastic waste including packets, food containers etc to strive towards a better environmentally safe future.

Let’s try and play our own personal part in putting an end to plastic waste, saving our seas and land to save our natural environment.
