Wahaj Ali’s drama ‘Sunn Mere Dil’ began airing on Wednesday night and once more the nation is enraptured by his acting skills. The drama revolves around the love story between the heir of a prestigious hotel group, Bilal Abdullah (played by Wahaj) and the daughter of his secretary Sadaf (played by Maya Ali).

Already the first two episodes are out and with the range of emotions Wahaj displays we are compelled to ask: are we finally getting a Pakistani version of Shah Rukh Khan? Lets analyse here.

Wahaj Ali knows how to make you feel sympathy for even the most evil characters that he brings to life

One of the things that audiences have admired about Shah Rukh is how he is able to make them feel sympathy for even the worst people like  Rahul from ‘Darr’. This was something the director Aditya Chopra remarked on in the documentary ‘The Romantics’ that he convinced the King Khan to make more romance film because of his expressive eyes.

In ‘Sunn Mere Dil’, Bilal is a billionaire who spends most of his time getting drunk because of his inability to recover from the tragic passing of his father. And yet, Bilal displays care and tenderness towards his staff members and makes sure that they are provided for at all time.

Many users have shared clips of Bilal’s grief when he visit’s his father’s grave even though we know that he is a playboy who fools around most of the time.

What also makes Bilal so endearing is how despite all his wealth he is able to take a rejection and fix himself. When he expresses interest for Sadaf, her father tells him that he won’t allow her date a drunkard. We can witness the grief in Bilal’s eyes at how much this broke him. And later on by the end of the episode he drops the alcohol bottle on the floor. Meaning his feelings towards Sadaf are genuine. This is all credit to the writer as well as Wahaj for how he can make an evil man so redeemable in the eyes of the audience.

Wahaj Ali’s characters have always been helplessly devoted to the women in dramas

What sets Shah Rukh Khan’s films on a higher pedestal is how his characters are the one who are prepared to do anything to be the perfect man for the woman they love, completely flipping on the sexist standards of Bollywood movies. We have grown up loving men like Rahul from K3G, Surinder from ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jori’ and even Veer from ‘Veer Zaara’. What is that makes all these men so charming? It’s because they were willing to go against their family and society only to be with the woman they wanted.

Wahaj’s dramas have also got the same thing in common: a man who is ready to lay his world down at the feet of the woman he adores. Looking back at some of his hit dramas like ‘Tere Bin’, Murtasim was a man so in love with Meerub that he completely changed into a different man. Yes the sexism was astounding at most times, but what kept us rooting for this couple was how Murtasim kept proving time and time again that he was infatuated by Meerab even though he had tried his hardest not to be.

We all can remember the special ‘Murtasim gaze’ fans had highlighted as the best part of the show, where Murtasim starred at Meerab like he was looking at the most divine being on earth

Or the time when Meerab got sick and Murtasim was by her side at all time. Please Wahaj, have some mercy! Pakistani men aren’t capable to meet the standards you’re setting.

And let’s also not forget lover boy Saad from ‘Mujhay Pyar Hua Tha’. Even though he was deeply in love with Maheer he was ready to help her achieve all the happiness she wanted even if it meant getting married to the other boy she truly loved.

So there you have it folks. Wahaj Ali’s drama choices definitely prove that he is Pakistan’s Shah Rukh Khan. We are only hoping that he keeps the audiences fed with the swoon-worthy, love-struck leads he keeps mastering in dramas.
