Pakistani fashion designer and host, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, recently made an appearance on a chat show where the designer shares why he is proud to not know who Urfi Javed is. In conversation, HSY give his two cents on current cross border artistic exchanges between Pakistan and India, and his take on Indian political policies not allowing work with Pakistanis.
When asked a question about Urfi Javed’s designer, as the other show guests made fun of Urfi’s fashion choices, HSY announced that he had never heard of Urfi. The internationally recognized designer opined, “I believe we should give Indian industry only as much attention as they give to us, which is next to nothing. I concentrate on my own Pakistani industry, as I feel respect demands respect. Therefore, if we are not getting respect then why should we continue to give it.”Further explaining his viewpoint HSY said that artist to artist he has no issues, but he does have a problem with the state’s standing political policy where Indians will refuse to work with an artist just on accord of them being a Pakistani.
In addition to being a well-known figure in the entertainment industry, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin is not shy about expressing his political views. Particularly considering that HSY comes from a political family—for those who are unaware, his father, Mian Hamid Yasin, was the chief whip in the administration of ex Pakistani President Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
