PGC attracts outrage for suppressing rape case

The horrifying alleged rape case from the Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) has shaken the internet. On October 13, a 1st year student was raped in the basement by the security guard. Police authorities arrested the culprit, Aun, 10 hours later after finding him on the outskirts of Lahore.

The Nation reports that the culprit had a history of inappropriate behavior towards other students. The survivor is currently in the ICU.

The PGC group had swfitly responded to the crime on social media by releasing a statement saying that no such incident had taken place on the campus. The post attracted backlash from social media users, causing students to begin protesting on campus calling for better policies towards tackling rape and sexual violence.

The backlash to PGC grew spontaneously after videos emerged on social media where students, both male and female, were seen being beaten by cops.

Groups like Aurat March released a statement standing in solidarity with the students protesting against the crime on their campus.

 

Social media users also expressed their outrage over students being beaten by cops.

 

 

Celebrities speak out against the PGC rape case.

Celebrities have started to come out in droves to protest the horrific suppression and violence student protesters have faced. Actress Durefishan released a statement on her Instagram stories. She pointed out that violence against women continues to thrive because we refuse to educate men on how to become better human beings.

Other celebrities like model and host Iffat Omar shared a video of protesters recounting the sexual violence women faced on the campus.

 

Actress and producer Amar Khan shared a post from Niche Lifestyle on her Instagram stories of the students protesting on the PGC campus. She highlighted that the femicide has grown to an alarming rise in Pakistan and it is time authorities acknowledged and began dealing with it.
