Trigger warning: this story contains details of child abuse and rape.
Actress Sabeen Farooq has stepped up to urge authorities to take swift action after another horrific case of child abuse was discovered in Karachi. Seven-year old Muhammad Sarim was discovered in a water tank of his building on January 18, after he was declared missing for eleven days. According to the post-mortem autopsy performed by the doctor, the child had been raped before being brutally murdered.
Sabeen Farooq had shared a clip of the post by Niche Lifestyle on her Instagram stories, and urged authorities to take all possible measures to catch the abuser and enforce security measures to take care of children like Sarim.
“Can we all please share this as much as we can so the authorities take action. I request the Sindh government to investigate and punish the culprit behind this because enough of this already. The kid was only seven!!”
According to Express Tribune, Sarim was a student at a local madrassah when he went missing on January 7 while returning back home with his brother. The father had filed a missing person’s report with the Bilal Colony police station, after which a search operation was launched to look for the boy near the apartment and other surrounding areas.
DIG-West Irfan Ali Baloch told Dawn news that the teacher of the seminary where Sarim was a student has been taken into custody by the police and already DNA samples were being taken for cross-examination with the victim’s body.
