Leading Pakistani actress Hania Aamir has been made a victim of sexual harassment, online bullying and video-manipulation. Last night when the actress took a live audience member on her Instagram to be a part of her live session, a doctored video of that session began to be circulated over the internet soon after.

Trigger Warning

The doctored video was appalling, disgusting and absolutely unacceptable for a nation or community which considers itself to be “Islamic”, once again proving that our women are unsafe and at risk, not only in public places, but also in the comfort of their own homes, while on the internet!

Followers and fans of the actress on Instagram, Twitter and other social media platforms are all speaking out in favor of the actress and against this deplorable video on account of it involving all the following crimes, amongst others.

Sexual harassment

The video involves sexual harassment of the actress, which is defined as “behavior characterized by the making of unwelcome and inappropriate sexual remarks or physical advances in a workplace or other professional or social situation.”

Cyber bullying

It also involves cyber bullying of Hania Aamir, which is defined as “the use of electronic communication to bully a person, typically by sending messages of an intimidating or threatening nature.” Unfortunately the bullying did not end at the video, and there were many social media users who resorted to making vulgar remarks and mean comments even after all this.

Video-manipulation

The doctored video included manipulation of Hania’s live Instagram session to make it look like the man who was ejaculating on the other of the video, was part of her live session.

We are absolutely appalled, ashamed and embarrassed by this incident and thoroughly condemn it. We as a society have a responsibility towards the well-being and welfare of our women, and unfortunately this incident suggests we are massively failing at it.
