The internet has a new niche these days and it’s the ARY drama ‘Parwarish’. The show airs on Monday and Tuesday at 8 pm, and stars Aina Asif, Samar Jafri, Nauman Ijaz and Savera Nadeem in central roles. Only a few episodes in, the internet is already obsessed with how the show delves into the kind of struggles Gen-X students today are facing, and loving the chemistry between our young leads Maya and Wali. Here are some reasons why we definitely feel that this show should be on your list.
1 The wholesome bond between cousins despite their different family backgrounds.
The story begins with American-Pakistani siblings Wali and Aniya moving back with their parents to live with their grandparents in a joint family home, where they have to share a room with their cousins. Although, the siblings have an icy relationship with their relatives at the start, especially Wali, who consistently fights with Sameer because the two are made to share a room together. But it’s endearing to see how they all quickly come together to rescue Aniya when she was locked in her classroom by school bullies.
2. Aina wins hearts as the headstrong female lead who aspires to become a doctor
Maya (played by Aina Asif) is a stubborn girl from a conservative family who dreams of becoming a doctor and is heartbroken when she finds out that her father arranged her marriage proposal without her consent, and wants to marry her off after she graduates university. She’s fiercely protective of her mother and little sister to keep them safe from her father’s anger, and continues to plot ways to escape her upcoming marriage. But other than this, what social media users are also loving the way she fiercely banters with Wali over the most petty things because the two come from such opposite backgrounds. Already we feel like this will be a love story worth rooting for.
3. The show touches upon various issues like academic pressure, school bullying, financial insecurity and also women facing marriage pressure from family.
‘Parwarish’ is quickly getting good reviews from social media users because the show revolves around the lives of teenagers in Pakistan and the problems they are facing. It explores the scrutiny Wali faces from his father to study medicine and get into a good university, even though his passion is music and he is secretly applying to music schools behind his parents back. Aniya suffers from trauma because of a tragic incident which happened in America, and was being bullied in her new school that she refuses to open up to her family about. Maya aspires to study medicine and become financially independent, but her father’s decision to arrange her marriage to a Dubai-based man throws her dreams into jeopardy, and she has to remain silent out of her mother and sister’s pressure.
