Maryam Nawaz, Senior Vice President of PML-Nawaz (PML-N) takes a dig at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leadership for their reactions after getting arrested, as she recalled her own time in jail. Maryam’s statement comes after some of the top leaders from PTI were arrested on ‘sedition’ charges including Fawad Chaudhry.
Talking about the time when she was sent to jail by court for four months, in a money laundering case, the politician said, “Death cell mein reh kar aayi hoon, phir bhi kabhi media ke saamnay nahin royi” (I stayed in a death cell but never cried in front of the media). Maryam added that she was imprisoned during extreme temperatures but did not get down to self pity.
Maryam had been arrested from the Kot Lakhpat jail in connection with the Chaudhary Sugar Mills. After the court order Maryam had been shifted to the Kot Lakhpat jail where her father had been serving a seven-year long imprisonment. Both father and daughter were even held in the same jail for some time.
