Aurat March Karachi has posted a statement on their Instagram account announcing that the upcoming march has been postponed in light of the “war-like situation between India and Pakistan”.
“After much deliberation, Aurat March Karachi has decided to postpone this year’s march in light of the war-like situation between India and Pakistan. This decision was not made easily or quickly, espeically in light of how hard we voluntarily work all year round to bring people out on the streets. We also understand what this march means- for our communities, for our collective struggle, and for the visibility of those who are consistently pushed to the margins.”
“In the current climate,” the statement continues, “we must consider the risks that disproportionally impact those same communities: the fear of movement, the possibility of violence, and the increased surveillance that always accompanies national security narratives.”
Aurat March Karachi ended the statement by calling for peace.
“The price of war is paid not by those who wage it, but by those whose lives are already defined by scarcity.
We hope peace prevails-for the people, not for power. And we urge our state to see that a real commitment to security starts with care: food, shelter, safety and dignity for all.”
