A horrific case has sent shockwaves through the internet after a 17-year-old boy in the Qayyumabad area of Karachi raped a 1.5-year-old girl. The boy took the toddler out of the house under the pretext of getting her a snack from the shop and brought her home in a semi-conscious state. The minor was profusely vomiting, and upon taking her to the hospital, she passed away. The police have arrested the teenager, and the family demands justice, claiming that there may be more people involved in the crime.

Social media is in shock and rage, and many from Pakistan’s entertainment industry have come forward to express their grief and concern as they demand justice for the victim and her family. Expressing her grief on the growing number of cases of child sexual abuse in the country, host and actress Mishi Khan took to Instagram and posted:

Mishi stated that every time she sees a child, she cannot help but think of how someone can attack a child this age. Raging over the unfortunate case, she demanded that these sick-minded people should be given severe punishment to set a precedent and instill fear. She added that she is in shock seeing how rampant these cases are and how they have made society haunting.

Actress Sanam Baloch demanded accountability and support for the victim’s family; she stated that the crime is unimaginable. She posted:

In the hope that sanity prevails, actress Aiman Khan demanded that the rapist be hanged; she posted:

Actress Ayesha Omar stated that this is the lowest society could get and demanded that the rapist be held accountable. She added that the country cannot move forward if society keeps breeding such culprits. She posted:

Entrepreneur, Syeda Aliza Sultan, questioned how long such crimes will continue to happen and posted :

While they continue to demand justice for the child, some place the responsibility of protecting children on the parents. Frieha Altaf, model and host, also expressed her grief over the incident and opened up about how parents should protect their children. In this society, with the growing number of cases, parents should not trust relatives, nor should children be sent alone out of the house, she said. In her Instagram video, she urged parents to be vigilant about their surroundings and never to let young children be out of sight. She posted:
