“I have immense love and respect for you”: Javeria Saud issues public apology to Yumna Zaidi on ageist, disparaging comment

Television host Javeria Saud has landed in controversy yet again, as she blantantly commented about Yumna Zaidi’s age and her presence in the drama industry. In a “Guess the Celebrity” segment of her Eid transmission, childhood photos of celebrities were shown as guests guessed who they were. Using a photo they alleged was of Yumna, Javeria commented that this celebrity has been in the industry since the Stone Age, yet has only now gained acclaim. As laughter sprang across the guests, it was quickly guessed that it was Yumna.

Not only was a demeaning comment passed, but the photo used in the transmission was not Yumna’s. On Instagram, Yumna stated that it is ‘identity-based disinformation’ and that any such data must be verified before airing on national television. She posted:

In Yumna’s support, actress Maya Ali called out Javeria for pulling down her colleague for a few laughs. She stated that no one decides fate but Allah, yet it is saddening to see people within the industry pulling each other down. She added that it is about time we respect our actors and talent and stand by each other. She further added that platforms should b used responsibly and information should be verified before used. She posted:

Writer Saima Akram Chaudhry slammed Javeria, calling it an attempt to remain relevant. She added that Yumna is a hardworking person who has made her way to the top. She posted on X:

Amid backlash, Javeria has apologized to Yumna, stating that her statement was taken out of context. She said she regrets her team’s lack of research and has immense respect for Yumna and her craft.
