The legal thriller drama ‘Qarz E Jaan’ ended with a bang on Sunday night, with social media users applauding how Nashwa’s journey came full circle with her achieving her dream to become a criminal lawyer, and releasing herself from the shackles of her abusive family by putting Ammar (played by Nameer Khan) in prison for his crimes.

The director behind the show Saqib Khan took to his Instagram account yesterday and thanked the cast and crew members like Nameer, Usama Khan and especially Sakina Samo and Deepak Perwani who had wowed audiences with their incredible performances as the evil grandmother and Bakhtiar respectively.

Saqib also added an interesting insight into how he chose to set two conditions before the producers before he agreed to take on the drama. His first condition was that the drama would be set in a rural area to provide a hyper-patriarchal backdrop as he explained:

“That it be placed in a semi-urban or rural, hyper-patriarchal backdrop for the plausibility of the premise (initially I conceived, planned & placed the story/characters in Swat, though had to reimagine and urbanize the whole thing last minute due to unavoidable constraints).”

His second and most important condition was that it was only Yumna Zaidi who would have done justice to the role of Nashwa. Saqib wrote that the moment he heard that the actress had chosen to join the drama was when he signed up as well.

“Yumna Zaidi you’re one of the most intelligent, emotionally articulate actors I’ve ever worked with,” Saqib wrote in the comment section. “From our very first discussions, the challenge was to steer clear of the stereotypical “strong woman” cliché (as Peter shaffer says in Equus ‘ the usual unusual’) , and instead create a vulnerable, fallible, ever-evolving warrior who never gives up, never stops learning, never stops admitting & adapting. And how beautifully you built the physical, mental, and emotional world of that Nashwa. Watching you navigate with such grace & ease, especially while holding space for relatively inexperienced co-actors around you, that was something else.
There would be no Qarz-e-Jaan, at least not this one, if you weren’t there. Thank you for being so damn good at what you do.”

We can absolutely agree, there is no one other than Yumna that we can see bring such a fierce and lively character like Nashwa to life the way she had. The actress also thanked the director for his kind words, and hoped that the two get another chance to work together.

“I wish i get more chances to work with a brilliant director like you again inshAllah , it was you who created this world of “Qarz-e-jaan.”
