On Sunday, police arrested five suspects involved in the gang rape of a woman in Gujrat. According to Dawn the woman worked in a kids garment store and had gotten married four months ago.

The crime took place on April 1, when the woman was going back home after shopping when two men on a bike kidnapped her and took her to an isolated house on the outskirts of the city where they raped her. Three other men later joined in who also raped the woman.

After this, the woman said the kidnappers robbed her phone and Rs 18,000 from her, and then dropped her off back to Circular Road on the same day.

According to the Gujrat Police, a team had been formed under the supervision of DPO Dr Mustanser Atta Bajwa to trace down the suspects. They reported that the main culprit had been found in Madina Syedan village where he confessed to the crime.

In February, a case emerged from Sahiwal where a woman was raped by a male friend who had promised to marry her, and then threatened to release her videos on social media.

According to Dawn the woman had befriended the abuser on her phone and had pressured her into becoming physically intimate with him with the promise that he would marry her. During the relationship the man had raped the survivor, and after she kept pressuring him for marriage he sent a woman ‘C’ to her house for her marriage proposal. Later on, the abuser asked the woman to meet him in Lahore for wedding shopping, where instead she was taken to a house and raped multiple times by the abuser.
