Bushra Ansari defends PGC protestors in video

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz has caused outrage on social media when she gave a press conference on Monday regarding the Punjab Group of Colleges (PGC) rape incident. In her speech with the press, the PML-N politician denied the rape case as ‘fabricated’ and blamed the protestors as PTI supporters who were trying to damage the image of the country during a critical time.

Veteran actress Bushra Ansari released a video on her social media account today where she urged the government to stop maligning the student protesters demanding justice for the victim. She pointed out that these were well-educated students who were coming out in massive numbers. The story would have seemed suspicious had this only been 10 or 15 people.

“These are well-educated, outstanding students,” the ‘Dolly Ki Ayegi Barat’ actress said in the video. “Had this only been 15 children then there would have been some doubt about the allegations being true. “Investigate on what is the true story and please take action against it.”

Aurat March calls upon Maryam Nawaz to resign for ‘paak’ comments during PGC rape case press conference

Progressive groups like Aurat March have criticised Maryam Nawaz for the press conference in which she denied that the PGC rape case happened. A clip went viral on social media where the PML-N politician said the girl in question had not been raped and was ‘paak-saaf’, which many users criticised on social media

Aurat March released a statement on their social media pages where they called on Nawaz to apologise for her misogynist comments or to resign from her position.

“Last we checked, the only person who loses their honor in the crime of rape is the rapist,” said the statement. “How are we existing in the 21st century and still seeing formally educated people-that, too, a woman herself- furthering age-old rape apologist narratives?”
