Noor Mukaddam’s family gives out an official statement against rumors suggesting special favors by US Embassy officials towards convict Zahir Jaffer who was sentenced to death for the murder of Noor Mukadam. “Please stop spreading fake news. Zahir Jaffer is not escaping to the US” clarified the family stating that they have faith in Pakistan’s judicial system.
Rumors erupted after US Embassy officials in Islamabad recently met with convict in #NoorMukadam murder case at the Adiala Central Jail. According to a report published by @etribune, Jaffer asked the Embassy officials for access to lawyers and vegetarian food during the meeting. Moreover, a member of the US delegation, Mitchell P Murphy, also gifted him two books.
Netizens have been following the Noor Mukaddam case closely as justice has been delayed amidst court procedures and litigation. The case is still pending in court as Zahir Jaffar filed an appeal in the Supreme Court on Sunday against the Islamabad High Court’s (IHC) decision. Zahir had approached the IHC in March 2022 challenging his death sentence. However, the IHC had not only upheld the death sentence but also converted Zahir’s 25-year jail term into another death penalty. Currently, the case awaits a verdict from the Supreme Court.
