Twitter protests as LUMS dropped a speaker from coming to a talk on ‘Tolerance’ held by Amnesty International LUMS because of their religious identity. The idea was to discuss religious tolerance in Pakistan with members of various marginalized minorities.
Amnesty International LUMS Chapter issued an official statement on the matter, revealing that the speaker was disinvited ‘abruptly’, as per the demands of the university authorities.
On 6th December 2022, Amnesty International LUMS Chapter intended to host a talk on tolerance in Pakistan with members of various marginalized minorities. Unfortunately, we were abruptly told to drop the Ahmedi representative we had called to speak last night.

The move has openly been criticized by LUMS alumni, current affiliates and social media users alike who have called out the institution for its hypocrisy and double standards, on accord of barring a panelist from attending because of their religious identity.
A panel on religious tolerance in which one panellist was barred from attending because of their religious identity. Ironic much? Shameful behaviour on the part of LUMS administration. Embarrassed to be affiliated with this institution today. https://t.co/V2rOx5Yh0S

LUMS admin has allowed for it to become a space where the LUMS Islamic Community gets to call women fitnahs and record people. This is just another addition to that. When a secular university becomes religious, these type of horrific decisions by the admin are bound to happen https://t.co/Drtxg9Xotk
