In the latest, PM Shehbaz Sharif encouraged Pakistani athletes who won Gold Medals at the Commonwealth Games to aim for a ‘Platinum’ medal next time round. The only problem being that no such medal exists- and social media users seem to be having a bawl over the entire incident.
The incident too place on Thursday when PM Shehbaz Sharif held a ceremony at the PM House in Islamabad, meeting with athletes who won medals for the country in the Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 and the Islamic Solidarity Games. The athletes were awarded cash prizes. Medalist athletes including Altaf-ur-Rehman, Nooh But, and Arshad Nadeem also attended the ceremony.
PM Sharif said that he wishes the medalists who won bronze to win silver; who won silver should win gold; the athletes who won gold should try to win a ‘platinum’ medal next time. The audience, however, responded to him with applause.
Social media users couldn’t help but comment over the remarks made to the Pakistani Medalists, sharing various memes and comments over Twitter.
