For what happens to be the first time in Pakistan’s history, Prime Minister (PM) Shehbaz Sharif has approved the setting up of a task force to look after minority rights in Pakistan.
The statement issued by the Prime Minister in this regard states, “In light of the resolution passed by the National Assembly on May 9, 2022, the prime minister has been pleased to approve the constitution of the task force on minorities to oversee the implementation of rights of minorities in light with the decision of the apex court.”
The task force will be headed by Member of National Assembly, MNA Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani- who is also the patron-in-chief of the Pakistan Hindu Council.
As chairman of the task force, Dr Vankwani tweeted that such a step had been taken “for the first time in the history of Pakistan” and that he would like to remove the feelings of insecurity that minorities face in the country. He also vowed to challenge the anti-Pakistan propaganda regarding minorities.

In another tweet, Dr Vankwani wrote, “Recommendations will be made for the solution of the to solve the problems faced by the minorities, and we will take people from all the segments of the society along with us.”

The committee will comprise of 23 parliamentarians, senators and ex-officio members and will be required to submit quarterly reports on its progress to the PM. All provincial governments and administrations have been advised to assist and aid the task force in the completion of its goals and duties.
