HOME1947 by SOC Films wins Best Film trophy at South Asian Film Festival of Montréal
Sharmeen Obaid Chinoy (two-time Academy Award winner) has another feather in her cap as her series HOME1947 bags the best film award at the SAFFM 2020.
She is known for making short films and documentaries that highlight the issues of our society and many of her documentaries have received recognition internationally. Sharmeen’s ‘Sitara’ is Pakistan’s first animated film that will be released by Netflix USA.
Sharmeen said that HOME1947, is a deeply personal exploration of the lives and stories of the millions who were displaced in 1947 during the creation of two new independent states, India and Pakistan. She further added that It recreates the long-lost sights and sounds of what millions once called home and explores this world through the eyes of those who lived through it.
The HOME1947 series was first premiered as part of the HOME1947 Exhibition at the Manchester International Festival in the UK followed by exhibitions in Mumbai [India], Lahore and Karachi.
We wish her tons of more success and may she and her team of SOC Films keep making Pakistan proud on both national and international platforms!
