Representation matters! Like any other medium Pakistani entertainment and shows get mansplained and celebrate patriarchal norms that are unfortunately very relevant in the society today as they were before. From ‘Dou takkay ki aurat’ to backlash and censorship of female centric shows, the entertainment industry is still struggling to bring forth narratives that highlight female issues. If you are in the mood to watch a female centric show highlighting the issues that women face today, then here is a list of them.
Zindagi Gulzar Hai
Sanam Saeed is the protagonist of this drama where she can be seen going against societal stereotypes and fighting for her own rights. She’s a working woman who has seen her mother support their family without the help of their father.

Churails
A ten episode feature which features women of diverse backgrounds coming together to form a detective agency called Churails. The aim of the agency is to help women find more about their husbands whom they suspect are cheating on them.

Dil Na Umeed Tou Nahi
Based on the sensitive topic of human trafficking, the drama has garnered a lot of attention and is still on air. In an exclusive conversation with Something Haute, Yasra Rizvi, who is a part of the cast revealed that “It is a story about women trafficking….with an ensemble cast and the main track is set in a modern/elite brothel, focusing on the lives of a few of these women of different ages and backgrounds.”

We hope that more shows highlighting women’s issues are allowed to air and stream so that the female narrative can be heard.
