The measles epidemic in Sindh has claimed over 17 children’s lives in two months, while over 1100 remain in critical condition.
According to Express News, between January 1 to March 8 the Health Department has reported over 1100 cases across Sindh. 550 came from Karachi, 10 children passed away in Khairpur, 5 in District Sharqi, and 1 child each from the cities Jacobabad and Sukkur.
Medical experts have reportedly said the cause of the disease was due to lack of vaccination among children as well as parental negligence, which has led to the rise of the epidemic across the province.
In December 2024, the health department of Sindh reported over 132 children had passed away in that year, and with currently 6670 current cases in hospitals. According to Dawn, health experts said the case of measles has risen after winter settled into Sindh.
The publication also reported that a total of 829 children had been admitted into hospitals so far, with those diagnosed with measles being 713 and those with diphtheria reaching 116 so far.
