When was the last time we watched a Pakistani drama that didn’t demean or abuse the women it portrayed? Two months into 2022 and yet every single mainstream popular drama like “Hum Kahan Kay Sachay Thay”, “Aye Mushtak e Khaas” or “Aitebaar”, all these dramas are centered around treating women in horrific and abusive manners. And we need to question why is it still acceptable for our dramas to keep regressing while the rest of the world keeps moving on.

Yesterday, Twitter was horrified by another show that featured abusive treatment of women. A clip from the drama “Mein Aisi Kyun Hoon” showed the female lead and her child are being abused by her husband for being ugly only because of the fact that they have curly hair.

Twitter users had to point out that why are dramas consistently centered around the message that women should mold themselves according to a man’s desires? Why can’t we appreciate Pakistani women for being independent and happy with the way that they are?
