Trigger warning: this story contains details of domestic violence.

In Karachi, police arrested a man from Korangi for beating his wife and then setting her on fire when she caught him talking to other women behind her back. The survivor is currently admitted at Burns Center of Civil Hospital Karachi.

According to Dawn, the survivor filed a First Information Report (FIR) against her husband, saying that they had a love marriage two years ago. The husband’s attitude began evolving after the marriage and he began abusing her every day.

The wife suspected that her husband was interested in other women after on March 14 he did not return back home until midnight. When the wife attempted to investigate this by contacting the other woman on her phone, it was her husband who picked up the call instead and he began shouting abuses at her. When the husband reached home, he beat up his wife severely and then doused kerosene over her and torched her in rage.

The suspect had escaped after committing the crime and the wife was taken to the hospital by her father-in-law, where she demanded to begin legal proceedings  against her husband. The Karachi Police had arrested the husband after they conducted a raid at the Azeempura area of Shah Faisal colony.

Previously in February, a man Muneer Ahmed was sentenced to ten years in prison along with a fine around Rs 1 lac after he was found guilty for raping his nephew.
