Sindh has reported as many as 595 killings over the past four years under the pretext of karo-kari(honour killing), according to police data compiled from districts across the province, Geo News reported. According to the report, from 2022 to October 2025, 466 women and 129 men were murdered after being accused of illicit relations, a practice actively observed in several rural areas of the province.

In 2022, with 102 cases registered, 114 people, including 89 women and 25 men, were killed. The number of registered cases rose in 2023, when 151 cases of honour killing were reported, with 167 deaths. The victims included 135 women and 32 men. In 2024, another 152 people-123 women and 29 men, were murdered in 132 registered incidents.

The rise in honour killings is persistent in 2025, where 140 cases have been reported in these ten months(up to October). 162 individuals, including 119 women and 43 men, have been murdered.

The police report also reported that the majority of the suspects were close relatives of the victims. In the data collected over four years, 294 alleged killers were immediate family members, including 171 husbands, 77 brothers, 33 fathers, 5 sons, 2 sisters, 2 mothers and 4 daughters. Another 204 suspects were extended family members, while 16 were neighbours, friends or other individuals.

Regardless of protests and condemnation by rights groups, the practice of karo kari(honour killing) continues to be a rising crisis. Most cases are reported from rural districts where ingrained tribal customs and values overshadow legal protections.
