The Sindh High Court has demanded a report from Inspector General(IG) Sindh, Ghulam Nabi Memon, regarding the person being burned alive in Orangi Town, Karachi, Ary News reported. The report has been summoned after a petition was filed against the incident. During the hearing, Sindh High Court judge Justice Nisar issued remarks regarding the case.
Justice Nisar has urged the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to appear before the court to explain the situation. He stated that it is the court’s job to serve justice, even if the person was a criminal. He also questioned where the police were when the incident happened.
The man burned alive was an alleged robber accused of being a part of a robbery which resulted in the victim being shot dead two days ago. The enraged neighbours nabbed him, while his partner fled the scene on a motorbike, who was allegedly the one who shot the victim.
The petitioner said before the court that the police were present at the scene, yet decided to be silent spectators while the mob set the man ablaze, alive.
The video of the incident has gone viral on social media, spreading fear, especially among younger people. The petitioner has demanded that the IG and SSP be summoned to court and removed from their positions immediately. While the petition calls for action against unknown people, they claim that they had caught a criminal red-handed.
The petition emphasises that it is the duty of the police to take any action against criminals, whether a thief or a killer. It is solely the police’s job to present the suspect before the court, leaving it to them to decide their fate.
