Sidharth Malhotra receives flak online after the release of the trailer for his latest film Mission Majnu, for the film’s flawed and one-sided depiction of Pakistanis. Making significant headway in 2023, many of us thought the era of promoting Indian-Pakistani hatred and mistrust had now become outdated, making way for fresher narratives highlighting inclusivity, shared cultural histories and friendship, However, it seems like Sidharth Malhotra and the makers of Mission Majnu are not done yet.
Even though Pakistani and Indian fans alike had been excited for the film’s release, Twitterati have dubbed the ‘spy thriller’ a “flop” after watching its trailer. Post-release of the film’s trailer, Sid is being dubbed as the ‘official brand embarrassment of propaganda movies’, as he plays a disappointing Indian spy in the film, whose claim to heroism are his efforts to prevent Pakistan from “illegally” manufacturing a nuclear bomb.

Even more audiences cannot help but laugh at the film’s stereotypical and flawed depiction of Pakistanis and their everyday lives, with Sid wearing kajal, a skull cap, and a checkered scarf in his neck, using language like “adaab.. kidhar jaa rahe hain janab”.
