The Munna Bhai star recently revealed in an interview with India Today that he signed film Kalank because of its emotional connection with Pakistan. He further stated, “It is also a coincidence that my character is named Balraj, which is my father’s [Sunil Dutt] real name. He too came from Pakistan during partition, so it has an emotional connect”.
The actor also revealed that, “During the shooting of ‘Gumrah’ in 1993 Yash uncle had briefly mentioned about the story. Dharma Productions is like family; so when Karan approached me with the film, I had to do it. It is also a coincidence that my character is named Balraj, which is my father’s Sunil Dutt’s real name. He too came from Pakistan during Partition, so it has an emotional connect.”
The new Karan Johar film stars Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapoor, and Sonakshi Sinha and also marks the reunion of Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt after more than two decades.
The official teaser of the film was released last month.
