Another day, another painful reminder about the double standards Pakistani women have to navigate on a daily basis just to survive.
A man on X (formerly Twitter) went viral when he complained about how he was pressured to make a lot of money before the age of 30 in order to be considered a suitable rishta partner.
“Too many young men are rejected for their Rishta proposals only because they’re at the start of their jobs/careers and haven’t earned a lucrative sum just yet. It’s very unfair to expect a man under 30 to have an income in lacs who is trying his best,” he wrote.

It was women who quickly shut the man down to remind him that this was only a fraction of the kind of mental and emotional pressures they face with rishta proposals. Soon the original tweets received several responses where women shared the absurd reasons why they got a rejection from a rishta. Ranging from having mosquito bites on her arm, to not graduating from a reputable university or even because the girl was a Leo (!!!!) here are the hilarious but sad reasons why rishta aunties rejected women for marriage proposals.
This woman shared she was rejected by an aunty because she didn’t graduate from a reputable university, even though she had an amazing career.
I was rejected by an IBM grad and his mommy because I didn’t have a degree from a ‘prestigious’ university even though at that time I had jumpstarted my career without any formal university education.

Another shared she was rejected for not having straight hair….we’re shaking our heads at the audacity.
This really really mid guy’s mom rejected me because I didn’t have naturally straight hair….

Wearing outfits from last year????? Were these people even interested in finding a wife for their son?
I know women who were rejected bcz they wore outfits that were from last year or past year collections.
I know women who were rejected bcz they were highly educated but simple (not shokhi enough)
I know women who were rejected bcz they didn’t have a brother or father— Nemopani (@yiin_yanng) May 18, 2025
Journalist Laiba Zainab revealed she was rejected for a marriage proposal because her father was mute and deaf.
On my profile posted in two rings a lady said ye to shakal say IBA ki graduate nahi lagti. Another family rejected saying ‘hum nahi chahtay hamari future generations mein yeh masla aiye’ despite knowing before hand that my father is deaf and mute by birth. Chawal tareen log

Apparently now even caring too much about social issues can be a red flag for women.
one aunty said about me ‘i’m too much of a humanitarian’ because I said we should do more to help homeless people 😭

It’s also a red flag if you’re financially independent and run your own business apparently.
I got rejected just because I earn well and have a small business. His mother thinks women who make good money talk back and aren’t obedient enough. 🥲

And finally the most bonkers responses out to end this: rejected because the woman was a Leo.
A girl i knew was rejected because her father had passed away in her early childhood…..coz “baap tou hai nhi, milna bertaana kon keray ga?”
I was rejected because i am leo, coz “leos tou boht dominating hotay hen”— Nida Idrees (@nidaidrees02) May 18, 2025
