Trigger warning: distressing content, violence against women
The police in Hafizabad, Punjab have registered an FIR after a family alleged that their differently abled 14 year-old daughter had been raped. According to DAWN, the hideous crime was discovered after the victim’s family rushed the girl to the hospital where a medical check-up revealed she was six months pregnant.
The victim has congenital disabilities, which means she is unable to speak, walk or hear, and is also mentally immature. According to the FIR, the suspect had found the survivor alone in the Hussainabad colony six months ago where he had raped her and then went into hiding. The parents of the survivor have stated that they come from a poor background and had discovered the incident late because of their daughter’s condition.
Police officials have said that the accused would be arrested within 48 hours, and the District Police Officer Atif Nazir Khadar ordered the DSP City Circle to submit a report of the crime.
Previously on June 10, a woman was raped by a man who had entered into her house under the false guise of gifting meat for Eid celebrations, and had discovered her to be all alone. According to Aaj News, the man had attempted to seize the house the woman was currently living in with her family, despite being provided full payment.
