
The police have arrested a woman posing as a doctor in Kot Lakhpat, Lahore, Express News reported. Acting on a police helpline 15 call, the police arrested the alleged fake doctor from a public hospital. According to the Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Kashmala Farooq, the suspect worked at the General Hospital and was accused of accepting bribes from the public.
The suspect has been identified as Sonia Bibi, who does not have the qualifications to be a doctor. The suspect confessed to her crimes to the police during the investigation. She has accepted that she has been introducing herself as a doctor here and in her neighbourhood. She has collected thousands of rupees from her patients while posing as a doctor. A case has been registered against the woman, while further investigation is underway to find evidence against her.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Model Town, Sherbano Naqvi, has appreciated the Kot Lakhpat Police for their swift and decisive action. Currently, the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has formed an Anti-Quackery Committee, which is working in collaboration with the Punjab Healthcare Commission (PHC) to nab illegal medical practitioners. They are working towards a complete crackdown against quacks, unlicensed doctors and doctors with expired licenses.
