Singer and actor Azaan Sami Khan was a guest at Nida Yasir’s ARY show ‘Shaan-e-Suhoor’ where he opened up about the turbulent relationship with his father, the legendary singer Adnan Sami Khan. The ‘Tera Chehra’ singer moved to India in 2016 and gave up his citizenship and property, a move that caught extreme criticism on both sides of the border.
Reflecting on his relationship with the music maestro, Azaan revealed he had reconnected with his father when he was 15 years old, after losing contact when he was five.
“I was in touch with him until I turned five years old. Then we reconnected when I turned 15 years old. I stayed with him for a year.”
Azaan reflected on how much he had learned from his father during that year, not just regarding his professional life.
“I think that we learn a lot of lessons from our closest relatives especially when we reconnect with them after a long time. You understand some good things about them.”
“Every family has some issues, even ours did as well,” continued the ‘Dildara’ singer. “Both of us wanted to reconnect. When I went to visit him some issues did come up and we resolved them last year. Our contact was on and off during the years. But these are sensitive issues, because as you come closer there are certain rifts that come up.”
Speaking on whether the actor had a rift with his father, Azaan responded “We have a similar value system, so we didn’t have a rift. I had some resentment because he was absent during a period of my childhood..But as I said as we grow up, we gain new perspectives about the situation. They say it takes two to tango, so you understand the situation from both perspectives.”
