Social media personality and model Mathira was a guest on the Samaa talk show where she opened up about dealing with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The model revealed she found out about this condition as a grown adult from her doctors.

Mathira said she was given medicines for treating ADHD which she took for some time, but then discontinued it because she feared getting dependent on it. Along with this, the ‘Main Hoon Shahid Afridi’ actor said she had done a lot of research on the condition, and her family members knew all about what she was going through.

The importance of seeking out help

Mathira urged other people to not remain silent in fear for being ridiculed for suffering from mental disorders. She spoke about the importance of seeking treatment.

“ADHD is not an abnormality, a person should not shy away from speaking up about their suffering.”

How parents can help their children who suffer from mental health disorders

The model also talked about the need for parents and teachers to have a better way to approach children who suffer from mental disorders. She spoke about helping children re-direct their energy in a positive manner.

“Mothers think that they’re children are not studying, teachers think the child is not paying attention in class. Instead of fixing this they take methods that further break the child’s spirit. If you can direct an autistic child’s energy in a positive manner then they can become a better person when they grow up because if Allah takes something from you then he gives something in exchange as well. Some of of the best painters, composers, writers out there have ADHD.”

Continuing further, Mathira said parents shouldn’t fixate on scolding a child because this would waste the potential they have in directing all of their energy towards something positive.

Speaking about how she handled coping with ADHD along with being a mother, Mathira revealed how her mother and sister were immense help during such a difficult time.

“My mother and sister offered me a lot of help during this time. They did understand that I was going through a difficult time. If a person with ADHD suffers from depression then it takes them to an even worse place.”

We’re so happy that Mathira found the courage to speak about her mental disorder to destroy the stigma attached to it.

Previously, it was actress Sarwat Gillani who opened up about suffering from post-partum disorder at a television show.
