Chief Justice Aalia Neelum raised an intriguing question during the hearing, whether the aging of a wife could be used as a valid ground for getting married again.
She further questioned, “If women also start doing this, what will happen to society?”
The stance of the court was made clear stating that no justification could override the legal requirement of seeking prior permission before entering into a second marriage.
The man had gotten married the first time in 1999 and got married the second time in 2017. Reportedly, the man after being convicted wanted to settle the matter with his wife.
The Chief Justice Neelam raised a question on whether the claim had been made before or after the second marriage. The sentence was upheld keeping in mind no satisfactory answer could be provided to the court on this matter.
